Recommendations for Raised Pots 3/25
Raised pots for plants are allowed in both cemeteries. There are several things to consider if you wish to place one on your loved one's grave.
• Over the summer friends and relatives are responsible for watering any plants in pots. This also applies in the North Cemetery for plants in the ground (note - no in-ground plants are allowed in the South Cemetery).
• If a raised pot or shepherd's crook is used, it needs to be placed next to the monument to facilitate mowing and weed whipping.
• Pots that are large with more soil won't dry out as fast as small pots. • • Many people are starting to use succulent plants in their pots. These survive dry spells much better than geraniums, petunias etc.
• There are several "raised pot holders" that you may purchase from greenhouses or nurseries and place at your grave site. See pictures below.

• Please make sure they are sturdy enough to hold the pot. This is especially for big heavy ceramic pots
• Try to get a pot that fills the holder. Small pots may fall out on windy days.
• If you use a "shepherds crook" to hang a plant, the bottom of the plant must be at least 16" off the ground.
• At the end of the summer, remove the plastic pots and dead plants.
• Empty the plants and soil in ceramic pots before freezing nights. The moisture in the soil may freeze and crack the pot.
