Elim South Cemetery Rules Modified 8/24
Over the past several years many different memorial items have been added to grave sites. As these memorials have accumulated they have made the task of mowing and trimming more difficult and time consuming. To help keep the south cemetery beautiful and keep mowing costs down, the following rules will be enforced for the south cemetery. These rules will go into effect in June, 2024.
- Plants or trees shall only be planted by the cemetery committee or approved service provider. No additional benches are allowed.
- Each grave may have any combination of up to two standing structures in the ground:
- A raised pot for plants that is at least 16” off the ground. Plants in pots sitting on the ground will be removed.*
- A sturdy shepherd’s crook with items hanging from it. Bottom of the pot or item must be at least 16” off the ground.*
- Extra items stuck in the ground will be removed.*
- If a raised pot or shepherd's crook is used, it needs to be placed next to the monument to facilitate mowing and weed whipping.
- Plastic flowers may be placed after the Thursday before Memorial Day and need to be removed by June 15th. If left, the cemetery committee will dispose of them.
- No bricks, rocks, angels, porcelain statues, stuffed animals, crosses or other items shall be placed on the monument or on the grave.*
- Solar lights are allowed. If used they need to be placed in a pot with a stand or on a shepherd's crook above ground. Solar lights should not be placed in the ground. They will be removed if broken or not functioning.*
* - When items are removed they will be placed outside the shed in the south cemetery at the discretion of the cemetery committee. The shed is located on the west side of the cemetery towards the south end. In September, if these items haven’t been retrieved, they will be thrown away. Broken solar lights, plastic flowers and other items will not be saved.
Thank you for your compliance,
Elim Cemetery Committee
