Our food shelf serves the Scandia, Marine on St. Croix, and May Township communities. It is located on the lower level of our church, and the closest entry is the one with the green Scandia Preschool sign.

The food shelf is open by appointment. To set an appointment, please call the main church number, 651-433-2723 to provide your contact information. Our coordinator, Marlys, will then call return your call to set a specific time.

We are usually able to provide 60 pounds/a week's worth of food, plus vouchers for perishables.

In 2014, food and cash vouchers (for perishables) were provided to about 170 persons. Once a month individuals are eligible to partake of the food stores. (So an individual may be counted up to 12 times a year as a person for statistical purposes.)

In addition, 85 pounds of non-perishable items were shared with another food shelf and 475 pounds to Forest Lake School District for their
Food4Kids Backpack Program.

Elim Grows: Growing Food, Growing Community, and Sharing God's Abundance

A New Initiative

Green Grocery Shares

Elim Grows: Growing Food, Growing Community, and Sharing God's Abundance

In addition to the Green Grocery Share Program, Elim Lutheran will have a table at the Scandia Farmers Market and be participating in a form of community gardening. Our Elim Grows table will be where folks can purchase GG shares, share prayer requests, request further information about our Scandia-Marine food shelf, and as the season progresses enjoy food from our community garden.

There are volunteer opportunities as well! Please visit us at the Elim Grows table, Wednesdays June 8th-September 28th at the Scandia Farmers Market, Gammelgården Museum for more information.

If you have questions prior to the first market, please contact Pastor Meredith McGrath, 651-433-2723, ext 12.

The Scandia Farmers Market Green Grocery Shares Program provides access to a variety of local produce and products while supporting participating vendors. This program is like a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture); “shares” of products from local farm and business vendors are pre-purchased.

Shareholders are those who purchase GG Shares and then receive "dollars" to spend like currency at participating vendor booths on market days through the summer. (Which gives the participant more control and choice than a traditional CSA.)

A full shareholder package will cost $250; the shareholder will retain $225 while tithing $25. But shares can be purchased in a variety of amounts, basically for each $10 worth of GGS purchased, $1 will go toward providing persons in need with GGS

In collaboration with the Scandia Marine Food Shelf, Green Grocery Shares are available to anyone in the community. If you cannot afford fresh produce, simply come to the Elim Grows table at the Scandia Farmers Market to pick up free GGS "dollars".  Wednesdays 3:30-6:30pm

Last year, our first year of GGS, the program met our goals and exceeded our hopes. Together we were able to:
  • promote dignity and autonomy--providing shares to members of our community who cannot afford to enjoy fresh produce,
  • ensure a broader and more consistent financial support of our vendors, and
  • provide shareholders a greater sense of connection with the Scandia Farmers Market community.

Scandia Farmers Market Green Grocery Share Program is supported by:
