Elim North Cemetery Rules Modified 3/24
Over the past several years many different memorial items have been added to grave sites. These items, as they have accumulated, have made the task of mowing and trimming more difficult and time consuming. To help keep the north cemetery beautiful and keep mowing costs down, the following rules will be enforced for the north cemetery. These rules will go into effect in June, 2024.
- Well maintained in-ground plants are allowed in the north cemetery. These plants should not extend more than 2 feet from the monument. Plants in raised pots need to be at least 2 1⁄2 feet off the ground. One raised pot is allowed per grave*.
- One shepherd’s crook per grave is allowed*.
- If used, a raised pot and / or shepherd's crook needs to be placed next to the monument to facilitate mowing and weed whipping.
- No additional benches may be added. Planting of trees or woody shrubs is not allowed on graves.
- Plastic flowers may be placed after the Thursday before Memorial Day. They need to be removed by June 15th. If left, the cemetery committee will dispose of them.
- No bricks, rocks, angels, porcelain statues, stuffed animals, crosses or other items shall be placed on the monument or on the grave*
- Solar lights are allowed. If used, they must be placed in a pot with a stand or on a shepherd's crook above ground. Solar lights should not be placed in the ground. They will be removed if broken or not functioning.
* - When items are removed they will be placed outside the shed in the south cemetery at the discretion of the cemetery committee. The shed is located on the west side of the cemetery towards the south end. In September, if the items haven’t been retrieved, they will be thrown away. Broken solar lights, plastic flowers and other items will not be saved.
Thank you for your compliance.
