Landscaping in Elim's Cemeteries
2014
As time passes the beautiful white cedars have continued to grow. Some of them are so large they could damage headstones in the vicinity if they were to be blown over in a storm. This year we decided to start to remove some of the larger ones in the cemetery. Took out 10+ pairs of trees.
After the stumps were ground in late fall, we had a large number of holes to fill. In the winter of 2014, Kacey Moncur, a scout from our church troop proposed doing an Eagle Scout project in the cemetery. Filling, leveling and reseeding these holes became part of his project!

2015 ProjectsAs the year 2014 ended, the cemetery committee was working with Dan Sandager at Abramhamson Nurseries to come up with a plan to add some trees to the cemetery. Dan came up with a plan that exceeded our expectations!!! It included removing the cedar hedge to the south of the main entrance and the old messy spirea shrubs along the East - West sidewalks.
Instead of just placing a few trees throughout the cemetery he came up with a beautiful plan to place 25 trees along the sidewalks. The north-south sidewalk has eight staggered Sugar Tyme crabapples. The long east-west sidewalk has seventeen "Ivory Silk" japanese tree lilacs.
As we were discussing the landscaping, Kacey (a scout in Elim's troop) came to the cemetery board looking for an Eagle Scout Project. We collaborated and came up with a plan to plant the crabapples and tree lilacs, fill in and seed the holes left from the cedar removal last year and make a sign for the cemetery highlighting the former pastors buried here.
